33 Weeks

My brother's wedding was last weekend, so Jeff and I had a family picture taken. The wedding was beautiful and now Jace officially has a new Aunt Amanda! Congrats you two!

I have begun my bi-weekly appointments. 2 weeks ago, Jace weighed just over 4 lbs, which was above average on the charts. Jeff says it is because he is a Bakken Baby. Hopefully he won't get too big too quickly though! I have another appointment on Friday, so we will see how much he has grown then.

Tonight is our first birthing/parenting class. Hopefully Jeff gets some good ideas on how to keep me relaxed during labor. :)

We have begun getting the nursery ready. We packed up Jeff's video games, music books, and keyboard. Also some of my books and things too. We also gave our futon to my sister and brother in law until we have a place that will fit it again. Jeff and I spent a good part of the afternoon on Monday putting together the pack 'n play, bouncer/rocker, baby swing, and diaper genie. Can't wait until we actually have real furniture to put in Jace's room. I'm getting very excited for all the baby prep ahead of us in the next month!

28 Weeks!

28 Weeks
I can't believe we are in the third trimester already! I have been very busy with school finishing up, but now summer has officially begun and I can relax and look forward to all the many summer events planned.

I had an appointment on June 7th and Jace was weighing about 2.5 lbs and is in the 67% for his growth. He is right on track :) I also had my glucose test and some other blood tests for my Heperin shots.
I do not have gestational diabetes, but Dr. McFadden had to increase my Heperin shots to twice a day instead of only once. Mainly because of my weight gain and being in the 3rd trimester, my dosage just needs to be more adequate.

Jace has been kicking me a lot lately, he seems to not like bedtime, uh oh! He enjoys listening to music. For Mother's Day, Jeff bought me a belt to wear around my belly with built in speakers and it connects to my iPod. We created a special playlist for Jace in hopes that when we play it after he is born it will have a calming effect on him. The list includes some of Jeff's geeky video game music and some of my favorite Tom Pease Children's songs. Of course we also included some pop culture, like Michael Jackson and the Beatles. We want to make sure Jace is very musically well-rounded. :)

I hope to be posting more often now that I am on summer break, hope everyone enjoys the beautiful summer weather!

Love, Kendi

21 Weeks

 3D Ultrasound!!

We had our ultrasound with the radiologist today. Jace likes to dance, he was very active. The technician said he was also very photogenic, so she took lots of pictures.

You can see his face in this picture. I was very happy to see that everything is in proportion.:)
 One more 3D photo.

The technician said he was measuring at 22 weeks, giving me a due date of September 4th. But, she said the earlier ultrasounds are usually more accurate, so we are sticking to the September 10th due date for now.

I hope these video clips work. The technician decided to video tape a little, since he was so into moving around.

Jace was very active today. I think it was because he heard Tom Pease sing this morning and he heard his Daddy sing this afternoon. I think he is going to be just like his Dad, can't sit still and loves music. :)

Here is the proof shot that Jace Kendall is indeed a boy. Just like his father, he was not afraid to show it off!

20 Weeks!

Jeff and I went on a vacation to Washington D.C. and visited Jeff's Uncle Dave. Here's a picture of the baby bump on the trip. Surprisingly, I did a lot of walking and museum hopping with no troubles at all. Jeff was impressed :) Baby Bakken enjoyed his first plane trip and vacation!
 It's a Boy!!!!

Here's the picture to prove it. He is definitely not a shy one in this toilet bowl view.

Welcome to the family, Jace Kendall Bakken
I can't believe I am already at the half-way point. I have officially felt Jace kick me. Jeff and I were chatting on the phone and he must have known I was talking to Daddy cause he gave a couple of strong kicks! Jace also enjoyed Soiree Musicale this weekend. He liked the jazz music the best. :)

14 Weeks!

I had another appointment today. The baby is measuring 9cm from head to butt, so s/he is about 4-5 inches long from head to toe. The beats were 158 bpm, it has slowed down since the last appointment. I have gained about 3 pounds so far in my pregnancy. When you look at the picture above you can see that s/he is looking at you. There are definitely two eyes, a nose, and a mouth. :) According to the doctor, it doesn't look like it has a clef palate, so that is good news. We also saw his/her arms and legs and we counted the fingers on one hand (all 5 were there :) ).

I finally told all my students last week that I am expecting. Their faces lit up when I told them. I got a lot of big grins, but not any questions or comments yet. I did have one student immediately tell his mom that he wanted to visit my house and see my baby. He was a little disappointed when mom told him the baby wasn't born yet. I also had one student buy me a baby present already. He told mom he really wanted to buy the baby something, so he and his mom picked out a onesie together.

As for my sickness during this whole pregnancy, it has been going really well. I have officially gotten through the first trimester without throwing up! I am crossing my fingers that this continues. I have been taking shots of Heperin as a blood thinner for my Factor 2 gene, that was a little hard getting used to, but luckily I have an awesome big sister and husband to help me through it. Thanks you two! I have a small bump forming, once it is more significant, I might include a picture. I am anxiously anticipating getting to feel the baby move. I read that it feels like gas, so I hope I haven't missed it yet! However, I am sure s/he will make themself known sooner or later.

I guess that is it for now! Thanks for checking into my blog and feel free to comment or ask questions!

2nd Prenatal Appointment

Went in for my 10 week appointment today. The baby is measuring 3.5 cm, exactly to the date...10 weeks and 3 days. S/he is a very active baby, it was bouncing all over the place and we were able to see it's spine, eyes, and nose. It was amazing! The heartbeat was 172 bpm. Right away I said if the old wives' tale is true it must be a boy, but Dr. McFadden told us he recently read an article that stated that recent studies have proved that the rate of the heartbeat vs. sex is a 50/50 chance, so I guess we will just have to wait and see :). I have never been one to believe in old wives' tales anyways.

We're Expecting!

According to Jeff, I cannot not say that WE are pregnant, since I am the only one that is actually pregnant....so we are expecting a new bundle of joy in September.

I am just about at my 10 week mark and I am happy to say that pregnancy isn't treating me too bad. I of course have the occasional queasiness and I am tired all the time. But, (knock on wood) I have not thrown up once and the mood swings have been very minimal. I don't know if Jeff would agree on the last part, but he has no idea how bad it could get.

According to my sprout pregnancy app, the baby is about the size of an olive and weighs about a quarter of an ounce. It is officially a fetus! I really like using this app to update myself on the growth of the baby and it has a lot of info about what to expect throughout my pregnancy.

I have an appointment on Thursday and will hopefully be able to upload some ultrasound pictures. I am really excited to start using this blog as a way to stay in contact with our friends and family. I hope you enjoy it too!
